30th March - Kathmandu
We arrived in Kathmandu late morning on 30th March and were met by our guide Suchit Basnet and taken through the chaos that is Kathmandu to our hotel, the Royal Singi. After checking in and finding our rooms, we had an enjoyable lunch in a nearby restaurant, the Opium. After that we decided to have a look around the neighbourhood and eventually found a pleasant park to escape the crowds in this incredibly busy city. Walking around the park we managed to find a few birds, the most common of which were familiar Tree Sparrows. We also spotted Black Kites circling overhead, these being the lineatus subspecies which is known as Black-eared Kite. Common small birds encountered were Blue-throated Barbet, Common Tailorbird, House Crow, Red-vented Bulbul, Indian White-eye, and Oriental Magpie-robin, and also overhead with the Kites, House Swifts {Apus nipalensis}. These latter look identical to Little Swifts {Apuis affinis} but are a different species.
I didn't take my heavy camera on this walk so below is a gallery of a few images I took on the EOS 70D with the 'standard' zoom lens.
